for further essential information on
Door County, Wisconsin

Please Do Not Bring Firewood !!!!!!!!!

Please help stop the Emerald Ash Borer! Many ash trees have died in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana already. There are ample places to buy firewood at or near your campground. Besides, bringing your own firewood is bulky and dirty. Buying firewood at your campground is a small price to pay to stop this evil weavil (ok, it's not really a weavil, it just rhymes nicely).

Look at it this way: if you're out camping to enjoy the outdoors, why jeopardize ruining it by bringing in a bug that'll kill our beautiful trees?

Here's the Wisconsin DNR's info page on the Emerald Ash Borer.

This page also has good, current info: www.EmeraldAshBorer.info

Here's the USDA Forest Service info on the emerald ash borer.

Nurse Direct & Hospital Info:

If you have an emergency call 911. This should be a no-brainer, but I feel I have to add this here anyway.

If it's a non-emergency then call Nurse Direct first. Even if you have a simple question about what to do if you get bit by a mosquito (God forbid). Seriously, though, because the closest emergency room is at Door County Memorial Hospital in Sturgeon Bay, it'll be worth your time to talk with a nurse before driving all that way. Just a suggestion.

Finding Health Info About Door County Beaches:

Unfortunately, because of more "people pressure" on and around Door County the cleanliness of the beaches is almost always in question. Many of the beaches, especially close to towns, are tested very frequently for water quality. Go to Door County Health Department for the latest info on which beaches are safe to swim at.

I'm not sure about the specific contaminates that are tested for, but I'm sure coliform bacteria is near the top of the list. If you haven't made the connection yet, coliform bacteria generally have a sewage source--if you know what I mean. Don't even chance a swim in contaminated waters. The Door County Visitors Bureau has a very nice Map to beachs around Door County (at right).
