Wagon Trail Campground

Ellison Bay, WI

Wagon Trail Campground is very much a "high end" camping experience. It's a bit off the beaten path, but well worth the extra drive.

The exceptional campstore, with adjoining small game room and fireplace lounge, has a north-woodsy feel. There's recoded birdsong, north-woods crafts, and cozy warm plaid everywhere in the main building. The lounge area looks particularly inviting with the fireplace.

Free Wifi in and around the main building adds to its attractiveness.

The large majority of the sites are wooded. But, on the east side of the camp the trees (cedars?) grow nearly vertically, so there's little shade in the middle of the day. The trees on the west side of camp are more over-reaching and provide some really nice shade in the sites.

The very cute and unique cabins and yurts are available for rental. I think I'll have to come back and rent one of those cool yurts--it seems like it would be very tent-like. I noticed each yurt has a ceiling fan inside to help keep the air moving through-- nice touch.

There is a nice, small wooden playset near the camp office. Unfortunately there's no pool or hot tub--that would really be the icing on the cake for this place. But, maybe that's intentional, as pools tend to be a magnet for kids... which can generate a lot of noise... which can disturb a quiet camping experience.

The cabins have a nice porch area for eating and cooking when it's nice outside. This is my kind of cabin! So cozy and charming.

A Lady's Slipper orchid-- pretty rare in Wisconsin.

Thimbleberries in bloom in early summer (ripen by late summer). They're much like raspberries, but with a velvety texture.
